Tips for managing Long Covid
Some people who have caught coronavirus are continuing to feel the effects of the condition months after initial infection. The symptoms experienced may include fatigue, respiratory symptoms, digestive issues and neurological symptoms and are very similar to Covid symptoms. This has been termed Long Covid and symptoms may last for 6 weeks to 12 months.
Long Covid Symptoms
The most commonly reported symptoms are fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, joint pain, chest pain and less commonly brain fog, depression, muscle pain, headaches, fevers which come and go and heart palpitations or heart pounding.
Long term complications
Long term complications reported are inflammation of the heart, abnormal lung function, rashes, hair loss, issues with taste and smell, sleep issues, concentration and memory issues, increased anxiety and mood changes. As in other long term viruses these symptoms may come and go.
Although there is no specific test for Long Covid there are medical tests to rule out other causes of these symptoms. There are a number of lifestyle factors that can be changed to help these symptoms as well as supplements to aid recovery.
